Entourage 2008 (SP1): Calendar Events do not display AM/PM

D

Dybash, Jeremy

ISSUE: Event times do not distinguish AM/PM when creating Calendar Events or
Tasks.

DETAIL: My Date & Time format is set to 12-hr format (in System
Preferences), but neither AM/PM indicators appear in newly created events.
Attempts to override the event time (using 24-hr time) are unsuccessful, as
the time reverts to 12-hr time without AM/PM indicators.

Entourage 2004 did not exhibit this behavior.

This is still unaddressed as of SP1, and I find it VERY disconcerting. I
anticipate my less savvy users getting bit by this. We will not be
upgrading our 70+ users to Office 2008 until this is addressed.

SETUP: MacBook Pro 17/2.4GHz/10.5.2/Entourage 2008 v12.1.0 (080409)
connected to Exchange 2003 Server.

Anybody else seeing this?

Could you confirm and give more details about your settings under
Preferences:International:Formats in the Times field. What shows up as your
default time listing? If it is just HH:MM and not showing AM/PM then
Entourage won't show it either.

It would help to know what setting you have when you click the customize
button, most importantly what the settings are for SHORT as this is the one
Entourage will use for the new Events windows. Make sure it is "7:08 PM"

If it does look correct, select the space between the 08 and PM and type in
a space to ensure you didn't get a TAB character entered in. I tried that
and the AM/PM would not show up creating a new event.

My guess is the format was changed somehow and the AM/PM is not available to
Entourage from the OS or there is extra white space where it out of the
viewable area.

HI Doug,

You hit the nail on the head with this diagnosis.

System Prefs > International > Formats > Region: was set to "Custom" and the
Times section's "Short" setting did not have AM/PM included.
Clicking/dragging that into the "Show:" field allowed Entourage to display
AM/PM. One might just as well change set Region: to "United States" and
avoid the problem altogether.

I had been looking in System Preferences > Date & Time, which has always
been set to "Show AM/PM". I can now see that this setting only affects your
clock display in the Apple menu bar.

Note: I had changed the International > Formats setting some time ago, while
troubleshooting for a user. Guess I need to be doubly sure to change
settings back to defaults.

Thanks very much for your insight, Doug!
