Hi - problem connecting/synchronizing with exchange server.
I have entourage 2008 , and whenever i click send/receive, or synchronize
now, nothing happens. the progress window stays blank.
i removed the account, rebuild the database, recreated the account, now i
lost all my folders. i cannot receive any email, its all blank (no folders).
cannot access public folders or anything.

i have outlook 2007 on another pc, i am able to access exchange server fine.
i also have another mac with entourage 2008 , and it works fine.

so how can i fix the entourage thats not working? i dont understand. i
rebuilt the database, cleared the cash, and still it seems like its not
connecting to the server.

any help would be greatly appreciated!
Mike

Are you receiving any actual error messages? Does your Exchange account
possibly show "(Not Connected)" after its name in the folder list on the
left?

Review these instructions for connecting to an Exchange server. They are
valid for both Entourage 2004 and 2008.

No error message. I simply click on send/receive or synchronize now, and
nothing happens. I usually would see "now updating inbox, etc.." but i dont
see anything, and nothing gets updated.

i'm sure the setup is done correctly, as i have entourage 2008 on another
mac working fine, as well as outlook 2007 on a pc working fine (suggesting no
server side problems).

so i get no error messages, but i cannot seem to access any exchange items
(calendar, public folder, mailboxes). i do not understand why. it does not
say cannot connect. in fact, if i put the wrong password, it will say invalid
password. it accepts the correct password, but i just cannot seem to access
anything.

i tried a) rebuilding database b) clearing cache c) removing and readding
exchange account d) putting back time machine backup of main identity.

would really appreciate suggestions
thanks

How do you connect to your Exchange Server? Front-end Outlook Web Access
(OWA) connection or back-end direct connection?

Switch to the other and see what happens.

Not sure exactly what you asking.
The exchange server is for my university email. there is a web interface
(exchange.mcgill.ca), where i can use a outlook web version, but i am trying
to get entourage to access it .

my macbook is also running entourage 2008 and it communicates fine with the
exchange server.
my desktop, the entourage cannot seem to communicate with the exchange
server. on the same desktop, i am able to use apple mail and it works fine
with exchange, as well as outlook 2007 (in a virtual machine).

basically, what it appears is that something is blocking ENTOURAGE from
communicating with exchange.

I called microsoft, the tech support was basically create a new identity,
trash the prefs, reinstall. no help. after that, they want $260 for pro
support. i find it incredulous as all i want is to get back to something that
worked fine before.

again to restate, the problem is that I am unable to receive/send emails, my
calendar is blank, cannot access public folders. when i click send/receive,
nothing happens, no error message. when i try to send email, i get error 170,
try restart entourage and verify/rebuild database.

i emptied the exchange server cache, rebuilt the database, and reinstalled
after having removed office 2008 using the remove program.

Please anyone have any ideas??? it works fine on my other computers!

That means you're connecting via OWA, which is a front-end server. A
front-end server acts as a go-between server between an Internet user
and his real "back-end" Exchange server where his account is actually
stored.

Because you are a university student I doubt using a back-end server is
an option for you.

And did you try to create a new identity using Entourage menu --> Switch
Identity...? It's a valid troubleshooting method.

Also, try creating a new Mac OS X user account. Set up Entourage in that
account and see if the problem persists. This wouldn't be a permanent
solution but it would help narrow the problem.

I have what sounds like the identical issue accessing Exchange in a corporate network setting. We do not have OWA available. I have tried switching identities and verified that my credentials work on Outlook clients.

Just letting you know this is not a one-off issue.

Hi Eric!

Just because your problem sounds similar that doesn't mean it's the
same. In this case the OP is using OWA and you say you're not using OWA.

Please, always start your own thread for your problem, even if it sounds
the same as someone else's problem. Not all problems that sound alike
have the same solutions.

Hello Eric:

I'm having the same problem, If your new user is setup as an admin it works. When you setup a new user and use the Parental Controls it no longer connects to the server.
