entourage account settings

I am trying to set up a new temporary email account in Entourage, and am having issues with the sending of messages. When trying to check the DNS settings in System Preferences:Network (as suggested in the error message), I receive a message stating that; "My account settings have been changed by another application". I cannot dismiss this message, or access the menu, and can only exit System Preferences by a Force Quit. The network is broadband via Netgear wireless modem/router, for which I have had no problems at all thus far.

I believe the sending issue may have more to do with an incorrect SMTP address, but I am concerned that I am not able to check or amend my network system preferences. Can anyone assist me with this problem?

Thanks

This is probably a question for a more appropriate groups such as Apple

Only an application or script can change your System Preferences
settings without you doing it manually. But only you know what you've
installed that could do that.

Good luck!
