Entourage and Newsgroups-Help

Hi, I'm using OS 10.61 and Mac Office 2008, fully updated.When using the
Entourage Newsreader, particularly in the evening it takes forever, and
frequently with a server timeout to download the Headers from the
Newsgroups including msnews.microsoft.com. BUT, if I use Mozilla
Thunderbird ver 2.0.0.23 the headers are downloaded immediately. Same
newsgroups, 2 differnet news clients, so why is Entourage so sloww?

Can anyone help. Would prefer to use Entourage.

I use the Entourage newsreader and I download the entire messages and it's
very fast. How many groups are you trying to download?

Hi Diane,
Just one at a time. This morning Entourage is as fast as Thunderbird, but in
the evening it slows down to being virtually unusable yet Thunderbird is
still fast. I know at busy times my ADSL connection can slow down but why
Entourage slows so much whilst Thunderbird does not has me stumped?

I've used the Entourage newsreader since it came out and have never seen a
difference. No one else has ever reported this issue so I would assume that
the problem is specific to you. However, we all know what assume means. :)

1645hrs Have just used Thunderbird to download 1000 headers from this
newsgroup. Entourage was set to do same download at 1644hrs. Still
waiting for it to start the download, although it is connected to
msnews.microsoft.com!!!!!!! Just completed at 1657hrs.

During the morning or after 0100hrs at night both as quick as each
other, BUT during busy periods Thunderbird is streets ahead of Entourage
as a Newsreader.

There must be a reason for this difference at peak times.

The newsreader capabilities of Entourage were implemented several years
ago and have not be updated since them. MacBU has all but abandoned
support and improvement in this area.

I use Thunderbird myself instead of Entourage simply because it provides
me a much better experience.
