Entourage and the beach ball

I'm running Entourage under Tiger on a G4 and G5. Increasingly, the
application "goes away," showing the spinning beach ball and freezing. If I
look at the "force quit" dialog box it says the application isn't
responding, but if I leave it alone for a period of time - usually 30-60
seconds - it comes back to life. This happens every 2-3 minutes apparently
at random on both machines. Any suggestions? I have to use Entourage as
the front end to our corporate Exchange server.
Thanks - Jim

Are you using Live Sync? If so, try disabling it and doing manual
syncing when needed.

Alan, how do I disable it? Entourage Help doesn't tell me.
Thanks - Jim

Tools/Accounts/[that IMAP account]/Edit/Options. Uncheck the LiveSync box.

Paul I still can't find it. Tools/Accounts/[Exchange account]/Edit/and then
there isn't any option button, just a series of buttons for Account
Settings, Mail, Directory, Advanced, Delegate, Security. None of these have
Option buttons or anything about Live Sync. This is Entourage 11.1.0.
Perhaps an Exchange account is not the same as an IMAP account? (BTW, the
connection to the exchange account is a VPN connection if that matters)

Did you ever say before that you had Exchange and Entourage 2004? I missed
that. Exchange accounts in Entourage 2004 11.x (as opposed to X
10.1.4-10.1.6) are no longer IMAP accounts, so they don't have specified
LiveSync options. They now operate as WebDAV accounts, and effectively are
LiveSync (well, almost - they seem to sync every two minutes) which can't be
turned off.

Microsoft has acknowledged that there are problems in Exchange accounts,
many of which will be addressed by the imminent Entourage Exchange update
promised for "the second half of the year" (at MWSF). So hang in there.
