Entourage Backup Workflow

Hello.

I'm using Office 2008 under 10.5.6 on a 2008 Intel Mac. I never used
Automator before and I don't use iCal.

I decided to try the backup workflow for Entourage discussed in the blog at
http://blog.entourage.mvps.org/2009/04/quit_all_microsoft_applications_befor
e_backing_up.html. After I set everything up, I saw I made a typo when I
named the workflow that I saved as a plugin to iCal. So I went into
~/Library/Workflows/Applications/iCal and corrected the typo. But when I
went to edit the typo in the settings for the MUD Backup event in iCal, it
listed two items: the misspelled plugin and the correctly spelled plugin.
Now, the iCal folder only contains one plugin (the correctly spelled
plugin). Any idea why there are two plugins listed in the settings for the
event in iCal?

Thank you.

You would need to delete the plugin in the
~/Library/Workflows/Applications/iCal.

Open the Workflow in Automator again and save as iCal plugin. BTW, the typo
wouldn't have made the workflow not work.

You can't edit names like you do a file name in the Finder.

I think I need to delete more than just the plugin. I deleted it, and again
saved the workflow, but I still had the same results.

I deleted the plugin again, but this time didn't save the workflow, just to
see what would happen if I left ~/Library/Workflows/Applications/iCal empty.
It made no difference.

Make sure the workflow is correct for folder destinations. Save the workflow
as a workflow. Next, "save as" iCal plugin. This will bring up iCal to set
the time.

Same result.

Maybe I need to first delete all of the events in iCal that were there
before? I had created several identical backup events spread throughout the
day (don't recall how I did the duplication), and then enabled them to
repeat every day.

Yes, clear out your iCal events using the old ones. Are you now wishing you
had just left the typo in place? :)

Yes I am. And, since I don't remember how I duplicated the event (to repeat
several times per day), maybe I should try to resurrect the old workflow.

Well, I remembered how I duplicated the event (no different than duplicating
any file from within its app!). Nevertheless, I took the easy way out: I
reverted to an older iCal plist (from my Time Machine backup), and re-saved
the workflow. Case closed.

Thanks, Diane.

Hope you enjoy the convenience of using the workflow. Glad it's all working
for you now.
