Entourage: cannot open saved attachments

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

Having attached a document to a mail message in entourage, when I save the attachment and it encodes it, I am unable to open the attachment and it comes up with the following message: Could not open the attachment - An unknown error has occurred in Entourage"

Any ideas on what I need to do to fix this?

I think I've solved the problem by changing my default encode setting to Any computer (AppleDouble), but I do not understand why it would not open on my iMac using Macintosh (BinHex).

Any ideas?
