Entourage can't search for saved emails prior to 10.5 upgrade

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel
Email Client: imap

I hope this makes sense. I have a new iMac that is now running 10.5.1. Just did the upgrade from 10.4.11 this past weekend. Office 08 was installed a few months prior to the upgrade. I was able to search for many saved and older emails and have no problems finding them and opening them. Only since Monday (after the upgrade on Sat) can I not search for certain emails. Even some received the week prior to the upgrade. I had been using Office 04 prior to that. I know that every thing should be on the mail server if using IMAP. Could this be just a coincidence that something happened on the server and that is why I cannot find email i know were there just before the upgrade? I have complete backups of the iMac before and after the upgrade. I was able to locate a number of cashed emails that are only in text. Can those be re imported? Any thoughts, insights would be so appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Essential that you update to 10.5.2

Mac OS X 10.5.2 Combo Update

Is the Entourage Database Daemon (Office Notifications) turned on? Spotlight
will index any cache files the Entourage daemon has created even if the
daemon is not launched, but no new cache files will be created until the
daemon is launched again.

Could also be a preference thing. How did you upgrade to Leopard? If you use
the Upgrade, this causes all sorts of permissions problems.

There are 3 types of installs:

1. Upgrade Mac OS X (the default upgrade method)*
2. Archive and Install
3. Erase and Install

I can't perform this upgrade because of a conflict with Apple Remote Desktop. Had to revert an entire lab back to 10.5.1 image because of this.

Yes the Office notification is turned on. Would. I believe the upgrade was done with the default. It was a drop-in upgrade DVD. I will verify that to be sure. Would it be a good/bad idea to re-install with an archive and install at this point or would that not be advised? Thanks again for your help.

There were a lot of fixes with 10.5.2. You are the first person that has
mentioned a conflict with Apple Remote Desktop.

The default writes over your files and the differences between Tiger and
Leopard are significant. We have seen the most problems with users that used
this method.

Is there anyway to install Leopard using "Erase & Install" and apply the
combo updater to see if that solves your Apple Remote Desktop problems? (see
my comments below to use SuperDuper! to do this.)

Did resetting Sync Services help?

I would say yes, but let's first make sure that resetting Sync Services does
not fix your problem. I understand that Apple will be releasing a major
update soon and that might be your best option. I know having to revert back
is a huge process.

I would like to recommend SuperDuper! It has an option that makes reverting
an easy process. In fact if you have the physical ability with your drives
to do this you could try the combo on the "sandbox" volume without
destroying your current setup.

SuperDuper!(backup software) has a feature it has that protects you from
system updates that so bad.

One of the options in SuperDuper! is to create what the author calls a
"Sandbox". It's used to revert to pre-update state of your OS. Here's a
description of how this option works:

A Sandbox is a bootable copy of your system, stored on another hard drive or
partition, that shares your personal documents and data with the original.
With SuperDuper!, you actually use the Sandbox as your startup volume. You
can safely install any system updates, drivers or programs in the Sandbox,
without worrying about what might happen to your system. If anything goes
wrong, you can simply start up from the original system. SuperDuper! has
preserved it in its original, pre-disaster state but all your new and
changed personal documents are totally up to date. Within minutes, you're up
and running again without having to go through a difficult and
time-consuming restore process.

SuperDuper! Is $27.95. I¹m not affiliated with the product. Just a satisfied
user. <http://www.shirt-pocket.com/>
