Entourage can't send email

Ok so I upraded my perfectly working Micrsoft Office for Mac 2008 to
12.2.0 as suggested by Software Update.

Now my Entourage refuses to send any email using my Gmail account. It
still downloads email but cannot send.

Anybody experiencing this same problem or... even better.. any one
found the solution?

What happens when you try? Please be specific.

Nothing changed in 12.2.0 that would affect your Gmail account.

I am having the same issues with my MSN account. The emails are receiving
but not sending. I've set up a new POP (as it instructed) but the results
are the same. ... receiving but not sending. Email sent out via my business
exchange account works fine. Would love to get the MSN (now POP) account
send issues resolved.

What you really need is to properly setup the SMTP (POP is just for
receiving).

You could use the MSN SMTP server, but there is a chance that your ISP
is blocking external SMTPs. In this case, you are supposed to use the
SMTP provided by your ISP for your outgoing e-mails,

Now my Entourage refuses to send any email

1. If you can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration
2. If you can send but not receive you have a bad POP or IMAP configuration

Well.. here's the thing!
I was away from the computer for 2 days and on my return teh problem
is sorted. No settings have been changed! So no nearer what the
problem was but it all working fine.
Strange!

Thanks for the help those who commented here.

Send & Receive are always difficult to solve then add in Entourage acting
strange and then it becomes complex. I've seen cases where creating a new
Entourage Identity, entering the account (set to leave on server) info would
unstick the problem. When you return to your main user it then works. I've
also seen something similar using tcpflow that unsticks the issue.

How to use TCPflow to test Send & Receive:
