Entourage capacity

We use Entourage as a file system for client emails and our email in and out
boxes are very large. Does anyone know the maximum capacity for storage
either/or/and in terms of numbers of emails and overall file size capacity.
We been having problems lately, but speaking to 3 different MAC support
engineers has given us four totally different answers and, of course, there
are no answers from Microsoft.

Are there any reliable ways to deal with large capacity, such as archiving,
bearing in mind that even older emails need to be constantly accessible.

Thanks.

There was a set limit in earlier versions of Entourage, but I'm not sure
it is even the case any more in Entourage 2008.
That being said... if the mailboxes grow too huge (I don't know...
50GB??) performances sure are going to suffer,

In addition to Corentin's comments:

There is no real size limit in Entourage 2008 and 2004, but your database
should not/must not/cannot (?) contain more than two million database items.
Of course, it is nearly impossible to count the number of database items
inside a database, at least for people outside of Microsoft, so it is
generally very hard to say when a database has become too large and
unwieldy. If you notice performance issues and the database is somewhere in
the 2-digit-GB area, you might want to consider moving items out of the
database. It is always a good idea to remove attachments from email messages
and store these attachments outside the Entourage database.
