Entourage conduit for Palm problem

I have:
Mac 2.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
Office 2004
OSX 10.5
Palm Hotsync Manager 3.2

I just got this new Mac and I am now trying to set up my Treo to sync
with Entourage X.

I am trying to install the Entourage conduit using Microsoft Handheld
Synchronization installer. It tells me I can't install because "The
installation failed because the Microsoft Component Plugin could not
be found".

I did a search on the Microsoft Component Plugin and it is in
Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office folder. Is this where it
should be? If so, why won't the install work? If it should be
somewhere else, where should it be and how do I put it there?

How do I get the conduit to work?

First make sure that your copy of Office is up to date. Download and
install the latest Office 2004 updates, which are the Office 2004 11.3.5,
11.3.6, 11.3.7, & 11.3.8 updates.

In Office 2004, use Microsoft AutoUpdate to get the latest updates. From
any Office application, go to Help > Check for Updates (or manually launch
Microsoft AutoUpdate from the Applications folder). If any updates are
needed, they will display in a sheet, at which point you can check them and
press the "Install" button to download and install them.

Updates can also be found at the Microsoft web site:
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx#Office2004>

Then, install the Handheld Synchronization conduit again. On your computer,
go to /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/, and launch the
"Handheld Sync Installer". Note that the software available for download on
the Microsoft website is for use with Entourage X (version 10) only.

Are you running the installer that came with 2004?:

/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Handheld Sync
Installer

That's just what I was going to ask. This specific error message only
appears if you try to run the Handheld Sync Installer which can be found on
the Mactopia website; that version is for Office v.X only. For Office 2004,
you will have to use the installer mentioned by JollyRoger.
