Entourage connecting problem

Operating system : MAC OS X 10.6.2

I've recently (Feb/Mar 2010) encountered a new problem with Entourage
in Office for Mac 2008. The Send & Receive schedule, which previously
ran just fine, no longer does.
I can see the "Schedule 'Send & Receive' will run in 1 minutes"
message in the lower right hand corner counting down the minutes, but
after the time has passed, the message just reverts to counting down
again without having actually connected

Can you verify that it's not working by sending a mail message to
yourself? Be sure you're sending to a POP account or an IMAP account
that does not have Live Syncing enabled.

Verify that your schedule is enabled under Tools --> Schedules... and
open the "every ## minutes" schedule to make sure your accounts are
included. Each account that should be checked for new messages must be
in the schedule.

Hope this helps!

Usually you get an error message. Send & Receive issues are difficult to
track down. Options to check:

It's possible your ISP updated it's server and now requires a different
port and SSL.

Check to be sure there isn't a stuck message in the outbox.

1. If you can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration
2. If you can send but not receive you have a bad POP or IMAP configuration

You can try re-entering info.
You can delete account and create a new one.
Using copy/paste can result in an extra space being added. Type carefully.

Check your Keychain for corruption.

Check under advanced settings. Most ISPs require advanced settings now
for SMTP. Check the website for exact info on SSL and ports.

Hope this helps!

I have the same type of problem. Just recently I noticed that my emails do not display in the preview pane, only the email that was displayed when Entourage launched would display no matter which email I would select. Now I notice that when it goes into send/receive mode, the status shows as "connecting to mail.comcast.net" and will remain there unless I open my preferences from the menu bar, at which time it will login and proceed to check my email. This has only happened in the last few days. I don't believe I have made any knowing changes to my computer in that time.
