Entourage copy BOLD -> TextEdit, loses Bold?

T

For some reason, I can copy/paste *almost* all formatting from Entourage to
TextEdit. Except Bold.

This works:
Create new message. Make it all bold. Select the message text. Open
TextEdit (new RTF document). Paste. Bold is there.

This fails:
Create new message. Make one word bold, because it's important. Select the
message text. Open TextEdit (new RTF document). Paste. Nothing is bolded.

Oddly, This Works:
Create new message. Make one word bold, because it's important. Select the
message text. Open Word. Paste. Bolding is preserved.

WHY?

Is there any other way to archive in rtf the contents of a message? I
frequently bold important words and headings in my messages, and find myself
having to archive those messages in non-Entourage format. Going through
looking for bolded words/headings and re-bolding them is just plain tedious.
