Entourage crashing

G

Garrett Ewald

Frequently Entourage will crash, and when I try to wake it from sleep my
system will either not respond or wake up but Entourage can't be accessed.
If I can get the system to wake up, force quitting the application has only
limited effect. It doesn't quit completely, and when I restart the system it
freezes on a blue screen with the spinning clock like icon. Other times I
just have to force restart.

Wondering how many times I'll have to post this before someone responds. Am
I really the only person this is happening to?

Apparently, yes, you are. It's not something other people have a problem
with, and must be peculiar to your computer.

1) Entourage shouldn't be crashing, and doesn't for other people. Does it
ever crash when your computer is not sleeping? Do you have any idea what is
making it crash? There is nothing in the standard - or non-standard - setup
that makes Entourage crash.

2) Nothing at all, not even crashes, should be happening when your computer
is asleep. Crashes can't happen then. So when is Entourage crashing?

3) If Entourage crashes while the computer is not sleeping, can you just
re-launch it OK? Is there any reason why you don't do so? Does the
"Microsoft Error" application launch? Does it crash too?

4) Do you think maybe the problem is that Entourage crashes as the computer
wakes?

5) Have you tried turning off all automatic sleeping in System
Preferences/Energy Saver? Is this a laptop? If not, the computer does not
need to sleep - just set the display to sleep.

6) I'd hazard a wild guess that the problems may have to do with Network
connections, and what happens to those when the computer sleeps, and then
when Entourage tries to connect on waking, before the network connections
have revived. That's why I suggest turning sleep off.

7) If you get Entourage crashing without sleep, try rebuilding your
database. Hold down Option key at launch and choose Rebuild.
