I should add that I can see there is data in the database in the "main"
identity folder (2.33 gb) but entourage does not seem to be recognising it?
See this screenshot:

You'll note the Office 2004 Identities folder inside the Microsoft User Data
folder. Inside your Identities folder, you can have multiple Identity
folders. By default Entourage names your Identity "Main." Inside Main you
have 4 files:
Database
Mailing Lists
Rules
Signatures
(this is for Office 2004, Office 2008 contains My Day.plist.)
If you move or copy, you need to copy the entire Main Identity folder with
these 4 files.
You are correct, the info is stored in the database file. It must be in the
Microsoft User Data folder --> Office 2004 Identities folder in your
Documents folder or Entourage will open in a new blank Identity.
If you moved it, move it back. If you have used the new one, you will need
to rename it so the Finder will not overwrite it. You will have to manually
move your data to the other Identity.
One thing to note since you are a new Mac user, copying over files works for
your Documents folder, but for a true backup with the correct permissions,
you need to use software that makes a true backup. I recommend SuperDuper!
$27.95. I¹m not affiliated with the product. Just a satisfied user.
<
http://www.shirt-pocket.com/> It has a feature called a Sandbox, that will
save you if a system update goes bad. As a new Mac User, you need something
like this to make the transition easier. I'll be happy to discuss with you
backup options. I'm sure other list members will have additional options
they can offer so you can make a choice that works for you.
Let me know if you need further assistance. Cheers and Welcome to Mac! I
have a few tips and links posted to help new users here:
