I was trying to rebuild my database when opening entourage. I did not work so I forced quit the application. I moved old cache folder out of the identity into trash. Then I restarted Entourage but all email, contacts are gone. it seems that I still have the Database in my Main identity folder, but every time I open Entourage a new Database is created. How can I "import" all my information again?

Never fore quit an application unless there is no way. You can have data
loss. I suspect that your data is gone.

I moved old cache folder out of the identity
into trash.

Why would you do that?

Entourage creates a new Identity when it can no longer find your database.
Unless you can find the database there is no way to get your data back
unless you had a backup.

You can try looking in an invisible folder named "lost+found" The folder is
located at the root level of the hard drive. To find this hidden folder
called "lost+found. If you are lucky, you'll find the missing files.

You can try this method, but finding invisible files has been
problematic.... activate the Finder, then under the 'go' menu, select 'go to
folder'. In that dialog, enter "/lost+found" (without the quotes).

If there is a lost+found folder it will open, if not, you will get a 'folder
not found' error.

Thanks very much for your suggestions.
I know I did a couple of mistakes on the way.

I was unable to find a "lost+found" folder.
The database I still have is 1.8GB big but seems to be not recognized by entourage. Could it be corrupted?

Probably. First, I need some info. Open the Office folder in the Office X
folder in Applications. Look for a file called the Microsoft Component
Plugin. What version is it? If it's not 10.1.9, then you need to download
and update Entourage.

"/Applications/Microsoft Office X/Office/Microsoft Component Plugin"

Before rebuilding read this article:

Rebuilding a damaged database that exceeded size limit

In case the above link does not work:

Hope this helps!

Diane,
It really worked. I upgraded and then followed the steps suggested. Thank you so much for your help, a tremendous relief for me.
