Entourage Database Error

B

Brendan_Young

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

I can not get past the initial splash screen anymore. I get an error...."Can not access your database...must rebuild" . I am then dropped onto the database utility screen and no matter what I try I get an "I/O Error" and I am kicked out. I have tried removing and reinstalling office, but obviously did not work. However, Entourage does work on the "Guest" User account.

Please help!!!

Oh, and I did fix permissions and verified disk. There is nothing wrong with
it and I have 180GB free space.

I/O error almost always means disk damage.

Have you tried Entourage in a regular account and not guest. The purpose of
the Guest account is to provide limited access to an unregistered user.

If you want a configurable account for others to use then create a new,
managed account.

I would start with a new Identity in Entourage in a regular User's account.

Let me know if this helps.

Diane, thank you. Entourage works fine when I access it in another user account. I can not get past the initial splash screen when in my user account. I would be happy to start from scratch and reconnect to my work exchange account, however, I can not get past that initial splash screen before the program crashes and throws me into the database utility.
how do I start from scratch or fix the issue with my user account.

In the problem User's account...

1) Log out/in with Shift key down to disable all startup items and see if
Entourage will launch. If yes, then it's a conflict with a startup item.

2) Still fails, then move your Identity out of the Microsoft User Data
folder so Entourage will open in a new Main Identity. If that works, we know
it was your Identity and not preferences.

2) If it doesn't work, see this page for help troubleshooting your User
account.

Let me know what you find in testing.

Hi Diane. I have just read this conversation and I wonder if you can help me as well. I have basicly the same problem as Brendan and I know that it's because I have passed the 2GB limit of the data base. I copied the data base so I can open Entourage and use it but I haven't found out yet how to import the old data base without crashing the program again. Is there any way to save it?

Thanks for your time, Carie

It's always best to start your own thread. This one is already getting
confusing because it's about different versions of Entourage.

I'm assuming you are using Entourage X and haven't upgraded to get the 4GB
limit.

You won't be able to get the data out until and if....

1) you upgrade to 10.1.9
2) have the drive space to do this

I recover Entourage X databases for users all the time that don't have the
physical equipment to do this or the expertise. Read this article, then if
you were able to rebuild, try exporting using the link I posted earlier.
