Entourage / default accounts

Hello,

I have set up Entourage 2008 with two accounts -- my university e-mail account and my MobileMe account through Apple. I have set up my university e-mail to be default. (That is, when I look under Accounts, I've made sure it is in bold letters).

Yet, when I open up a window to compose a new message, it always shows my MobileMe account first. I have to keep re-selecting my university account. I've looked everywhere to find a solution to this simple problem. I was wondering if anyone knew how to make it where my default account actually IS the default?

Thanks so much!

Hi,

even though your university account is configured as the default account,
new mail messages do not always use this account. In Entourage, the account
that is used for a new mail message is defined by the folder or e-mail
message that is selected. In other words, if you view a message in your
MobileMe inbox, or if you have selected one of the MobileMe folders, any new
mail message will be sent through the MobileMe account by default. If,
however, you select a message or folder from your university account, the
new message will be sent through that account instead. Can you verify that
behaviour?

You are correct. I was able to duplicate this by composing a new message in both accounts and in each one, the default account was different. I have my university account set to forward to my MobileMe due to my university's network having a less-than desirable relationship with my iPhone.

I guess I'll have to make sure to check the account before I send messages out.

Thanks for your assistance!

If you go to Entourage menu --> Preferences... --> Mail & News
Preferences --> Reply & Forward then you can select the option to always
reply with your default account. While this doesn't address new
messages, this may at least alleviate part of your problem.

Hope this helps!
