Many of my emails are blanked out in Grey when I open entourage and when I
click on them I get a mail error message stating "the action could not be
completed, mail error" and entourage shuts down.
This is a sign of database corruption. Before you try rebuilding, how much
free space do you have on your drive and what size is your database?
Entourage X should be 10.1.6. If you have not upgraded. Quit Entourage and
move your Microsoft User Data folder to the desktop. Upgrade and let
Entourage create a new Microsoft User Data folder then drag back your
Identity, scripts and any other personal files.

Make a duplicate in the Finder first as additional backup. A rebuild does
make a duplicate, but sometimes in the process the original and backup get
merged resulting in total disaster. It's rare but it happens.
I do a lot of recovery for Entourage X users that don't have the drive space
to do this. If you have a large drive, you should be able to rebuild.
