Entourage error -17897 - Authentication failed because Entourage d

Hi all,

when I try to send a mail via the SMTP protocol I get the error message
-17897 - Authentication failed because Entourage doesn't support any of the
available authentication methods".
The SMTP server requires encrypted connections via ssl and supports the
authentification methods
AUTH-PLAIN and AUTH-LOGIN, but not NTLM as obviously required by Entourage.

Does anybody know which authentification methods are supported by Entourage
2004 and how I get Entourage working with a SMTP server only supporting
AUTH-PLAIN and AUTH-LOGIN?
