Entourage error 4362 on opening

The error dialog
"The action could not be completed.
An unknown error (4362) occurred"
At the same time about 20 of the most recent emails were grayed out.
Send and receive does not work.
I tried to remove Office (so that I could reinstall) but the remove
function on the original disk does not work.
I tried trashing Entourage and reinstalling but the error is still
there.
Updates 10.1.2 and 10.1.4 are installed.

Error 4362 usually indicates a problem accessing the database, and
frequently the Daemon is the problem.

Fire up 'process viewer' (it's in the 'utilities' folder of your main
applications folder). How many daemons are running?

Check the 'login items' section of the system preferences - is there more
than one daemon listed there? If so, delete them all, then log out and back
in again. A new login entry will be created when you first start an office
app.
