Entourage Error Message "could not read data in this .rge file"

Email Client: pop

Does anyone else ever get this message with the icon for entourage on yourdesk top bouncing up at you -- "Entourage could not read the data in this .rge file."

In the past we thought it was related to projects calendared in our projects file, and to which the initiator invited several of us in our office. But this bouncing E started happening to many of us today, and not one of us thinks they have been into the project calendar. HELP, this is massively irritating and we do not know where to start in solving.

We have this problem in our office too, I have NO idea where to begin
solving it, and everyone is starting to get really irritated. There
is a definite limit to my Mac knowledge, and we don't have a computer
support company so I'd be really grateful for any advice. I think it
started after a group invitation too, though I subsequently deleted
the appointment from the calendar so it ought to have stopped.
So far the only way of stopping it is to stop sharing projects - but
that's no good when it's a shared diary system!
Hope someone can help,
Thanks,
Lucy

The error message is very non-specific and does not give any
indication of which files have the problem. I'm afraid I wouldn't
know where to start on trying to find which one was causing the
problem.
What I do know is that everyone in my office is starting to get
extremely annoyed, and they are all disconnecting from the shared
systems - with the result that none of the contacts etc are getting
updated/used and I'm bearing the brunt of complaints!!

There was a thought that it might be because there is too much stuff
in inboxes - but how on earth do I get a director to delete/edit 10
years worth of email?!

Any tips on how to archive and still be able to search it?

Sorry to be so despondent, but thanks in advance for any thoughts.

First of all, an Entourage archive (.rge) has to be imported to be used.
There is no way to edit it. If the file is bad, you need to go back to the
original data and work from there.

Again, this is not making sense. How are people sharing an Entourage archive
(.rge)? Perhaps you can explain your situation in more detail.

Easy... but time consuming...Create custom views to show older mail. You
could do it by year. See these pages:

Spotlight can archive emails in an Identity, but will only search the
current Identity. You would need to drag messages to the desktop (in groups
of 199) so Spotlight can index those. Now you see how time consuming it can
be.
