Entourage error message

Q

qminer

I am using Office 2004. When I open Entourage a message pops up: "Entourage cannot access your data. To attempt to fix the problem, rebuild tour database."
When I click on OK, the Database Utility opens. I then click on either 1)Rebuild Database or 2) Verify Database Integrity.
Another message comes up that says, "An error occurred while attempting to verify/rebuild your database. An unknown error (-5000) occurred."
I have tried re-installing office 2004 but I still get the same message.

Error -5000

Messages with an attachment creates Error -5000

Attachments are stored in the Entourage Temp folder inside the Microsoft
User Data folder. This is where Entourage is trying to save the file before
it opens. Check the permissions on this folder.

Owner Access: Read Write
Group Access: Read only
Others: Read only
You can delete the Entourage Temp folder, and Entourage will create a new
one when launched.

Diane, you put me on the right path. Turns out all my Microsoft User Data files and folders had restrictive permissions. Setting the top level to allow me to have read and write, and applying same to all files and folders did the trick. Many thank!!!

You're welcome! Glad I could help and thanks for letting us know. Now when a
user searches for an answer they will see what worked....well when search
gets fixed on Mactopia. :)
