Entourage error. Rebuild database?

Entourage gave up on me. Sorry if I'm missing any posts about this,
but can anyone help?

When I relaunch Entourage, the first message says:
Entourage cannot access your data. To attempt to fix the problem,
rebuild your database.

To which I click yes, and it is followed by:
Compacting failed
A read/write error has occured (-40)

then,
Typical rebuild failed. Would you like to try an Advanced Rebuild?

I click yes again and it gives me:
Rebuilding failed
A read/write error has occured (-40)

then,
Rebuilding failed. It is likely that your database cannot be
repaired.

I've tried reinstalling, rebooting, etc., but thus far, no help.

Any suggestions?
