Entourage extremely slow downloading newsgroup messages

Hello;
I've posted this one before but I'd like to revisit it if I may in the
hope someone might have an answer.

I have an IMac OSX10.4.10. I'm experimenting with Newsreaders and
having an issue with Entourage and no other reader that I'd like to
nail down.
The other readers I have tried that are exhibiting normal behavior are
Thunderbird and Unison. Both don't do what I am about to describe.

My ISP news server is RCN. The account has been set up in all
newsreaders exactly the same way so the issue isn't with the ISP.
What is happening concerns downloading headers on newsgroups in Entourage ONLY.
After setting up now on two seperate Macs, the behavior is the same on
both systems.

After the news account has been set up for news.rcn.com and the
download limit set to 300 headers, when the icon to download them is
clicked, the lower right corner progress bar appears and says connected
to rcn. It stays hung up there for at least several minutes, then
switches to downloading headers and they download normally in a few
seconds.
If I go to another group...same behavior. Go BACK to the first group
again....same thing. ONLY with Entourage.
The other news readers connect instantly and download normally the
first 300 headers on the first hit, then only the latest posts on
succeeding hits.
I have been fooling with this now for several weeks with no success.
The forums don't seem to show anyone else with this issue, although
there are many posts saying Entourage is extremely slow with downloads.
Google coughs up nothing that stands out, and so far no one here has
the same issue.
Can anyone shed some light on this?????
Thanks much,
Dudley Henriques

Install tcpflow to monitor the traffic. Maybe it will shed some light on
what is hanging up with Entourage.

Test your network with tcpflow. See directions here:
