Entourage failed to update message status on server

Entourage on my laptop stopped updating message statuses on the server. I can read and send email. When I change the status of a message from read to unread or vice versa; when I move a message to a different folder; when I delete a message - in all cases it displays appropriately in Entourage on my laptop. However, the message is still in the inbox marked unread using Entourage on my desktop computer, using Outlook on a colleague's computer, or using Outlook Web Access.

What's going on? Why did my laptop suddenly stop synchronizing with the Exchange server? I've tried right clicking on folders and choosing Synchronize Now, but that has no apparent effect.

Unfortunately, this happened when I was on a five day trip out of the office, so now I have hundreds of messages still unread in the inbox on the Exchange server and I'd rather not manually update all of those messages I've already read. Is there some way to force my laptop to send the correct status for all these messages to the Exchange server?

Try right-clicking (or ctrl-clicking) on the Exchange server in Entourage's
server list and selecting Empty Cache. That may fix the problem.
Unfortunately, the problem may recur, in which case you will have to empty
the cache again.

Empty cache doesn't appear in any of the menus that I can find. A quick search of the web shows that the empty cache option isn't available in Entourage 2008.

I did find Empty Cache under folder properties, but that says it will replace the local copies with server copies. That's the opposite of what I want to do. I want to upload the local copies from the laptop to the server. If I delete the local copies from the laptop, I'll have to manually go through hundreds of old emails...

Copy your Sent Items messages to a folder under "On My Computer" as a
backup. You'll still need to empty the cache to get syncing working again.

Messages that aren't returned from the server can be copied from your
backup. These should be easy to spot because they'll be dated after the
time you stopped syncing.

Hope this helps!
