First, make sure Office is perfectly up to date.
Then are you with an Exchange account?? Do you have a lot of contacts
tied to projects?? That forces ENtourage to relink e-mails from these
contacts with projects and can eventualy slow down the app quite a bit.

You can't use Entourage when you are downloading, but I suspect the old
system (Panther )you have might be a part of the long delay. Did you fully
update Panther. Have you run the Panther combo?

I also see users on old systems that are now experiencing problems with full
hard drives. Over time, you tend to fill up your drive and this causes slow
downs. You need a minimum of 10% for the system.

Switch to Mail.

Seriously, I am a very heavy Entourage user and I can promise you that
there is NO WAY to fix it. It is a very capable app but it is a memory
pig and wants to re-index whenever you get a significant number of
emails. Of course, one solution as suggested is to stop linking
Contacts and Projects and Categories etc., etc., etc. In other words,
if you want to use the product to the extent of its capabilities,
understand its funkiness and performance limitations.

Here are a couple of suggestions that have helped me:

1 - Keep your inbox and Sent folders contents to below 1000 emails.
That's VERY important.
2 - Use Projects minimally - they take up a lot more horsepower than
Categories do. Use them when you need them, not out of convenience.

This doesn't sound like a POP account. Providing the correct info results in
better solutions.
