Entourage has stopped receiving & sending email

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

Today my Entourage 2008 has stopped receiving & sending emails.
It operates from my GMAIL POP account which is running at only 35% capacity & the webmail runs smoothly.
I keep getting error 16999......does this help anyone?

Also, is their a maximum limit on the number of emails Enotourage 2008 can handle? I keep everything & currently I have over 3,100 emails.

Prior to today's stoppage, about once a week I would get approx 50 duplicate emails in my Inbox which I've been constantly deleting but they keep reappearing the following week. Most annoying & I suspect this is related to the complete stoppage today.

Thanks Diane but it seems to have fixed itself somehow.

But I still have problems with duplication of old emails being downloaded multiple times only days apart. Any clues on this problem?

Duplicate emails are usually server error. Handle them with one of the
remove duplicate scripts:

Hi Diane,

Today saw the next receipt of duplicate emails of emails previously downloaded & mostly long-since deleted. However, when I selcted the range of emails to assess for dupliaction I recieved a negative message saying there were no duplicate messages found. Then it identified an error message & below is a copy of the error log.....please can you advise what to do now?

I'm assuming this is from one of the remove duplicate scripts. You'll need
to contact the author for help with this.

Have you tried a different script?
