current install. Then 2) "Remove Office" and re-install. It¹s possible you
will have to install Snow Leopard over itself. It doesn¹t wipe your drive
and is much like a combo updater just longer to do.

1. Run "Remove Office" found in this location:

2. Manually remove these files:

2a Delete Microsoft Office 2008 settings.plist file:

Leopard.

This iMac was purchased last December and it came with Snow Leopard and 4GB
of ram standard.
The Apple store installed Office 2008 for me.
And they migrated everything from the old Mac, which had Office X, to this
new Mac for me.

Maybe adding another 4GB of ram would help.
That sounds a lot easier for me than re-installing software.
1) I suggest first trying to run the Snow Leopard combo updater over your
current install. Then 2) "Remove Office" and re-install. It¹s possible you
will have to install Snow Leopard over itself. It doesn¹t wipe your drive
and is much like a combo updater just longer to do.

I just don't have the confidence to remove/un-install/re-install major
applications for fear of losing information or doing other damage.
Your detailed instructions are very much appreciated, it's my fear that has
to be overcome.

This is how the "About This Mac" reads.

You don't remove anything...you install over like the combo. It's a bit like
