My macbook started to go haywire so I quickly backed up what I could
inc. microsoft user data. I may now end up with a new machine as mine
is now unusable. Can I use this backup to import all my old emails and
if so how? Thanks in advance?

If you indeed copied the entire Microsoft User Data (MUD) folder, you should
be able to just copy it back to your new machine after installing office
there and running all the upgrades.

This is correct. You don't import it you just drag over the Microsoft User
Data folder.

If there are permissions errors, then move the original Microsoft User Data
folder to the desktop and let Entourage create a new one. Then you can drag
your Identity folder into the newly created Microsoft User Data folder.

Thanks Diane and Bob - I am yet to get this sorted but when I do I
just install office, drag my copied Microsoft user data folder across
to replace the new folder (I'm assuming there will be an existing user
data folder with nothing it?). If there are permission errors I create
a new user data folder (how?) and then replace. Then I open entourage
and will everything come in - old emails from inbox, sent, contacts
etc.

Thanks again

Sue

You will need to install Office to actually use the data. Be sure you update
or you'll get the error "This Identity Cannot Be Opened With This Version of
Entourage".

There wouldn't be a Microsoft User Data folder unless you had installed
Office and opened Entourage.
If there are permission errors I create
a new user data folder (how?) and then replace.

Move the current Microsoft User Data folder to the desktop. When you open
Entourage, it will automatically make a new one with a new blank Identity.
Then I open entourage
and will everything come in - old emails from inbox, sent, contacts
etc.

Yes.
