Entourage is modifying my file names

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

Hi,
When I send an attachement having a name with French accents, the file name is changed upon receiving the e-mail.
For instance: I send:
Événements.doc
My clients will receive:
Événements.docÉvénements.doc

I have friends who use accents and they don't have any problem.
