Entourage locking up on opening exchange Calendar

M

Manousakis, Costas

Hi all,
I'm using Entourage 2004 11.2.3 on PB g4 osx10.3.9 connecting to an exchange
2003 server. Every time I either click on the 'Calendar' icon, or on the
Calendar folder of the exchange account Entourage freezes up. I checked the
activity monitor and the Database Daemon takes all the cpu (90+%) and then
gets hung up. I have to forcequit both the daemon and then entourage. If I
go to the local calendar on My computer, I have no problem. I have deleted
the exchange account and re-created it, tried to delete all entourage
preferences I can find in finder, including database and nothing. Any ideas
please?
Thanks
Costas

This looks like a bad entry on the calendar on the server. You should
look for an old looking entry there or a very old one that never was
deleted. I suspect it is hanging all the sync. One way to really find
out what is going on is to do some port sniffing to watch all traffic
with the server and see where it gets stuck, but it could be rather
tedious.

Do you sync some of these events to a project ??

Hi Corentin,
The syncing seems to complete OK, I can see the message "now syncing
Calendar.." then "inbox..." etc. all the way to the end. I also tried,
viewing the calendar while 'working offline' and it is the same
problem.
I think before this happened, I had tried to 'link' an email to a
project with a deadline. I wonder if that cause some weird calendar
entry.
Is there any way to clean the Calendar on the server?

It could have. It can also have brought a huge load on the project
center up to the point of bringing Entourage to its knees (especially if
there is a due date entered in the calendar).

The project center must be local to the Mac ? (I don't see anything in
the windows outlook for projects) When I delete everything (I hope)
locally and then re-create the exchange account in entourage, there are
no more projects. So, why does it still lock?

Thanks again,
Costas

It's part of Entourage.

If you don't really know what the projects are, it's unlikely you
created one that would try to add numbers of calendar entries and sty in
sync.
A corrupted entry in the calendar seems the most likely explanation :-\

Do you think if I a) use export from the windows outlook to export all
the folders on the exchange server, b) ask my IT/exchange manager to
clear out my mailbox, then c) reload all that was exported it might
fix the problem? or is it not as simple as that? Do you know of any
tools that 'clean' up a mailbox in the server?
BTW on the windows outlook I'm having a small problem viewing my
personnal contacts stored in the the mailbox 'Contacts' folder. When
trying to address an email, i click on the To... button, and in the
dialog , when I choose the 'Contacts' folder, I don't see anything on
the list of contacts. I can use the 'Find' button, search for some
name, and then it will show the matching contacts on the list from
where you can choose. I'm thinking that something is wrong on the
server..

If I remember well, with Outlook, using a command-line option, you can
ask the app to verify and repair the entries... Maybe the IT guy willb e
able to check your account for corruption.

It could do the trick. You can also take the time to delete all the old
stuff you uwon;t ever access again. With a bit of luck the corruption
will be in there (it was for me the last time I had that problem).

Well... when I had that problem, I used Interarchy to monitor traffic
with the Exchange server and find out where the app was stuck. It
immediately pointed to a cpecific entry in my calendar. I trashed it and
I was done!

THat doesn't sound too good :-(

The data from your account could be corrupted indeed...
