Entourage/.Mac question

Hello,
I have a friend who has set up an alias on her .Mac account. She, as I, use
Entourage for our mail but are stumped over how to set up the alias on
Entourage. She can send and receive from both her regular and alias address
using .Mac mail on the web and can receive both on Entourage but cannot send
new mail from the alias using Entourage. We have tried setting up a new
account on Entourage but .Mac rejects the alias address when she tries to
send.

Since .Mac allows both sending and receiving with the alias from her .Mac
account on the web my guess is that we are not configuring the Entourage
account properly. BTW, she has no problem sending and receiving from her
main .Mac identity using Entourage. She has a G4 iBook OSX 10.4.11 and her
Office version is 11/3/6

Hi Fred,

the alias has to be set up in a slightly different way. First of all,
there's no need to specify any incoming server information; any mail sent to
your alias will be redirected automatically to your main identity, so if you
fill in the incoming server information, you should normally receive
duplicates of any e-mail messages sent to the alias account.

Here's a detailed configuration for the alias account settings in
Tools>Accounts: enter your name, then the alias e-mail address. You can
leave the "Receiving mail" portion blank. In the "Sending mail" section,
enter smtp.mac.com, then click on the button that says "Click here for
advanced sending options". In that new pop-up window, activate "SMTP server
requires authentication", then select "Log on using" and enter your
*regular* .Mac e-mail address, followed by your password.

That's the answer to your question: .Mac rejects sending messages from your
alias account since the alias account, strictly speaking, does not exist on
the .Mac servers. Instead, you always send messages through your main
account, and that's why you need to make the modifications I've just
mentioned.
