Entourage Mail Error: -17895

I have a couple pop accounts that are returning Error: -17895 ( Connection
to the server failed or was dropped.) when they are checked via the auto
check mail schedule. It¹s worth noting that if I do a manual send / receive
on either of these pop accounts, the system checks the accounts with no
errors.

Can someone tell me what might be going on and how I resolve it?

Thanks Pete

This is strange that auto send works but manual does not. Some servers like
you to receive first before sending so this could be the cause. You can
monitor the traffic using tcpflow or Eaves Drop to see the actual
conversaton between Entourage and your ISP.

Test your network with tcpflow. See directions here:

Another application I ran into recently that does the same thing but has a
different interface.

EavesDrop....Let it capture some stuff then double-click any of the lines of
text in the main window to see more detail.

The particular error is not listed on the Error Page, but errors close
number often have similar solutions.

Thank you for the input, however you got it backwards. The auto does not
work and the manual does. I used eavesdrop to look at the packets of the 6
different pop accounts I currently have set up. 4 are showing normal
interaction with the pop mail server, from initial greeting on, but the two
pop accounts in question do not appear to be sending valid instructions to
the pop server. They do not appear to be communicating in a manner that will
allow for the pop server to validate the request.

I have deleted the offending accounts and re-created them to no avail. I
have also re-created them on the server side with no luck.

Again, however, when I do a manual send receive of just one offending mail
account it works fine.

I'll run this past some advanced users and see what I can come up with.

Try these options:

Create a new Identity in Entourage and enter the two accounts. Do they work
there. If yes, it's your Identity.

Open Apple Mail and enter the account. Do they work there?

Create a new User in System Preferences, open Entourage and enter the
accounts. Do they work in a new User?

I would have said to try different ports, but if manual works then auto
should work as well.

Almost overlooked this.

Could it be the server is getting confused by accounts sending at the same
time? When you say manual does, can you clarify.
