Entourage merge fields not available?

Steve Gage

Hello,

I am using the latest Word and Entourage. I'm doing fairly simple form
letters, using the Entourage address book for the data source. The problem
is that not all of the address book fields are shown in the Word merge
manager thing. For one thing, it seems to be picking up only work addresses,
not personal. How can I make all the Ent. fields available for merging?

TIA,

I am using the latest Word and Entourage. I'm doing fairly simple form

It uses the Default Address, which is set by default to Work, but which you
can change to Home for any contact in Entourage. (And if there is _only_ a
Home address, then Default Address _will_ be Home already.)

So you might want to do that.

An alternative, which makes every field available, just as you ask, is to
export contacts from Entourage as File/Export Contacts... to a tab text
file. You can then use the text file, rather than Office Address Book, as
the Data Source. It has every field available. Unfortunately, it does not
have Categories available (that's not really an Entourage field) so you
can't query on them, and the order appears random. To sort by any field you
want using Excel to do it for you, see the post I sent just last night in
the thread " Word and Entourage Interoperability". It's really quite cool.
(There's also a way to do it just in a Word table, but that's less
versatile.)

To have a text file that includes a Categories field (and to export by
category too if you wish) you can get my scripts referred to in that post.
