Entourage Moves Some Messages to Local Inbox, But Not Others

I have a iMac 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor / 1GB RAM / 250GB HDD
(183GB available) / 20in Built-In Display

I am running Microsoft Entourage 2004, connecting to an IMAP email
account.

I bought this computer and Office 2004 this past winter, and it has
been running fine up until about a month ago. Suddenly, whenever I
open Entourage, it downloads my messages from my IMAP inbox and moves
SOME of them to the local inbox, but not others.

The whole point of me paying for this IMAP account is so that my
messages are always on the server, and can be used on my multiple
computers, as well as from WebMail. But because of this Entourage
issue, I have been using Outlook on my Windows PC. I have searched for
troubleshooting articles and other Usenet groups for this issue, but
nothing has helped so far.

Does anyone have any ideas?

One of your Rules is probably moving messages to the wrong Inbox, or
not matching all messages like you think it is.

You must have a rule that is moving the message. The most likely culprit is
the Mailing List Manager (MLM). It's very easy to set up a MLM rule by
accident, when you are marking a message as 'not junk'. The wording of that
dialog is ambiguous to say the least. Check if there is an MLM entry (look
for MLM entries under the tools menu) with the local Inbox as the target
folder. Mailing List Manager rules run before your other rules.

If there are no MLM rules, then check your regular rules to see if one of
those are moving your messages.
