entourage no longer saving sent messages

I

ingridwhyte

Suddenly, entourage is no longer saving a copy of my sent messages to
the Sent items folder. Frustrating as I use this feature a lot. I've
checked my Preferences and everything is correctly checked, I've
restarted my Mac. But I still show no sent messages for over a week
despite having sent at least 100 emails.
Any advice?

They might be misdirected due to a corrupted rule.

Check your Outgoing Rules under Tools in the menu bar --> Rules, click on
the Outgoing tab.

Do a custom view to find where the sent mails are going.

Actually I just found the outgoing rules. What should they be
saying. Currently its flagged as 'all messages' and as "set
category'. Also both boxes are ticked for "do not apply other rules
to messages that meet these criteria' and 'enabled'. Should the
category box be marked differently?
Thanks!

You don't have to have any outgoing rules. I only have a couple. One is to
remove attachments and the other to move messages sent to the newsgroup to a
subfolder of Sent.

What you need to check is Move messages to folder xxx.

I don't know what your purpose of setting a category to sent messages is
used for and the "do not apply other rules,,," really doesn't apply if there
are no other outgoing rules.

There are several examples of rules that you might want to check out.

One that I recommend for everyone is Junk is from "me". This one will allow
you to send mail to yourself but will let the Junk Mail Filter catch the
real spam. I use #1. I haven't found a spammer yet that uses Entourage to
send spam.

Thank you. Yes, I can see the sent messges now in the Customrview but
I can't tell where they are located. How do I determine where they
are? ANd then, I cn I ensure they get forwaded to my sent mail folder
instaed?

Also, on my view pane, the dates are all screwed up. Today, shows
inbox mail since within the past week. Yesterday, shows Mail two weeks
olds, etc. The date sent is in descending order but the Today,
Yesterday, One Week Ago is all very strange. And not sure if this is
realted but everytime I open my calendar it opens to the month of May
rather than the current month of June. I fell like something strange
has taken over my computer??
Thanks in advance!
Ingrid

Oh, gosh, me again. I'm sorry. It is not actually my sent mail that
is there in the Custom View but rather mail that I have received.
The sent mail is not showing up anywhere. Do I need to b.c. myself in
order to make sure I keep copies of all my sent mail?
This is so frustrating.

I solved the claendar issue (hoping it might be connected!) but alas
no. In the meantime, do I think I should try uninstalling Entourage
and reinstalling it? It's very time consuming and I don't want to lose
any work or emails but I really need to resolve the sent mail issue.
Thanks!

No uninstalling will not help.

Let's try this. Create a message and make the subject have an unusual name.
For example qquark. Send the message to yourself.

Since this is a made up name if you do a custom view for a message with
qquark in the name it should be the only message to be listed. This will
show you the folder where your sent mail is going without a lot of other
messages cluttering up the interface.

You asked: How do I determine where they are?

Switch to Preview Pane Below under View in the menu bar. Next in the Custom
View go to the menu bar under View. Select Columns and add Folder. You will
see the folder where the message is located.

You also asked: And then, I cn I ensure they get forwarded to my sent mail
folder instead?

You'll need to find the rule that is moving the message.

Diane, thanks for your help in all of this. For what's its worth, the
issue seemed to resolve itself when I fixed my calendar! Suddenly my
Sent messages started appearing again in my sent items box. However,
who knows where the sent messages are for the week of June 8th but I'm
delighted that messages are once again showing up.
Strange, eh? But I'm happy!
