Entourage not syncing with address book and ical

H

HK

I have Entourage v11.3.3 and iCal v2.05. I've turned on sync services
in the preferences menu for the address book and calener in Entourage
and selected to replace sync services with Entourage items. I want
iCal and address book to use my Entourage data so I can sync with my
iPhone.

However none of my data is making it's way to either address book or
ical. In iCal, I even have an "Entourage" calendar created and it
says it was automatically created by Entourage. It's checked but no
events show up. I've tried to manually sync in Entourage too by right
clickign on the calendar and choosing sync now.

Am I missing something? Thanks.

The first sync takes a very long time. How long since you enabled syncing?

If you run Activity Monitor, do you see a program listed called "Sync
Server"?

Not very long...what would be a reasonable amount of time? My
calendar does have alot of events.

Sync Server shows up, so that's a good thing? I also just updated
entourage to 11.3.6

You may need to reset your sync history. You'll find a button to do this
by opening iSync --> Preferences and clicking the Reset Sync
History... button. This makes your Mac think it has never synced
anything before. The next time you sync you should be prompted for how
to sync the information (merge, override, etc.).

Hope this helps! bill

Not sure why my reply from 4 days ago hasn't shown up...but here goes
again.

I reset the sync history, but still, nothing shows up in iCal or
Address Book. Is there a way to manually force a sync? Or does it
just do it automatically? I read something about shared calendars. I
have opened up my Entourage calendar and address book to share with my
assistant. Is that causing a sync problem?

The sync is automatic, though there is a way to force it. You can use
Syncrospector:<http://www.cortig.net/wordpress/?p=132>

Thanks for the link. But clicking on the link in the article you
provided and it doesn't seem like Syncrospector (or simplestickies
which you need to download to get syncrospector) exists.

Oh nooooooooo they removed the page!!!!!
What a nightmare, it really was a useful app.

The article on Syncorspector is still there though:

They have a whole set of articles on Syncrospector and the
SImpleStickies sample codes, but I can't find any link to download
them anymore :-@

Methinks Apple didn't want Syncrospector in the hands of anyone other
than developers.

That's great and all...but still doesn't help me with my problem.
I've tried everything and nothing is being sync'd from Entourage. But
Entourage does create a calendar in iCal automatically. I choose to
let Entourage overwrite sync services, let it run all day long, and
nothing transfers over.

The only thing I can think of then is to reset sync services entirely.
It's rpetty drastic though :-\For that I use the following SHell
Script:

#!/bin/shkillall SyncServerrm -rf ~/Library/Application\
Support/SyncServices/*open
/System/Library/PreferencePanes/Mac.prefPaneopen
/Applications/Safari.appopen /Applications/iCal.appopen
/Applications/Address\ Book.app

You don't need to run it as a script. You can do the following:
- in Activity Monitor, look for "SyncServer. If you find it, make it
quit (big Stop button on the toolbar). - in the Finder, go to
~/Library/Application\ Support/SyncServices/ and trash everything. -
launch the .Mac prefpane in the system preferences, then all apps that
use SyncService (to help them re-register their services): Safari,
iCal, the Address Book, ENtourage, Yojimbo....

This completely resets sync services. You'll start fresh as if you had
never synched anything ever.

Ok, that sorta worked. My Entourage address book is now in Address
Book. But my calendar events have not moved over to iCal yet and iCal
doesn't have an "Entourage" calendar automatically created by
Entourage yet. Guess I'll give it some time.

Did-you double-check that the SyncService pref was properly enabled for
the Calendar in the Entourage prefs?? (I suspect you did, but it never
hurts to check).

It could be that your ENtourage prefs are corrupted too.... In which
case, you might consider trashing them to re-specify them (the prefs
don't have anything about the accoutns settings, it's just display
prefs, spelling, etc...)

I am having the same issue. I had everything working fine and had to
rebuild my Entourage Database and since then the sync has not worked.
I have tried the different resets shown on mvps with no luck. I can
get Entourage to sync with address book but not iCal. I am not even
getting the Entourage calendar on iCal. As I mentioned everything
worked until the rebuild.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

I'm still having the same problems too. Address book is syncing, but
calendar is not syncing with ical.

Did you try deleting the Entourage pref (or just putting it aside and
relaunching the app)??
