Entourage OSX rebuilds don't seem to work

Vickie

Hi, my e-mail capacity was 3ish gigs, but last night, I suddenly couldn't attach a couple of documents to an outgoing e-mail.
I quit Entourage and started a typical rebuild.
The message came back, telling me there was not enough room to rebuild, even though I have ample space on my hard drive. I finally ditched 12 gigs of stuff and was able to do a rebuild. I've done both typical and advanced and each time, the message comes up to compact my e-mail because I have reached the 4 gig capacity. It won't let me into my e-mail so I can dump some stuff. Can you please help me?

Besides having the space to double your database (continuous space) you need
breathing room for the OS to work.

Have you deleted the old rebuilds? Those will be taking up a lot of room.

See the article about an Entourage X user that had trouble rebuilding.

My suggestion would be to invest in a FireWire drive to backup your data. If
you clone your HD to the backup drive and then erase your original drive and
start back you will probably be surprised at the performance increase.
Having a backup drive is a necessity not a luxury if your data has any
importance.

The FW drive I use is a Seagate 250 GB Firewire external in case with
cables. ($119.99) I've been happy with the drive. It doesn't use a fan so is
very quiet. Just a satisfied user.

Here are a couple of other links that are good sources for cables, drives
etc.

I'm sure some other will have some suggestions on drives and prices that
would help you find a good buy.

Once you get setup, get SuperDuper to backup your data.

One of the options in SuperDuper! is to create what the author calls a
"Sandbox". It's used to revert to pre-update state of your OS. Here's a
description of how this option works:

A Sandbox is a bootable copy of your system, stored on another hard drive or
partition, that shares your personal documents and data with the original.
With SuperDuper!, you actually use the Sandbox as your startup volume. You
can safely install any system updates, drivers or programs in the Sandbox,
without worrying about what might happen to your system. If anything goes
wrong, you can simply start up from the original system. SuperDuper! has
preserved it in its original, pre-disaster state but all your new and
changed personal documents are totally up to date. Within minutes, you're up
and running again without having to go through a difficult and
time-consuming restore process.

SuperDuper! Is $27.95. I¹m not affiliated with the product. Just a satisfied
user. <http://www.shirt-pocket.com/>

Boy, I sound like an advertising person today.:)
