Entourage performing very badly on new MacBook Pro

I have posted this to the Apple discussions site as well for better
exposure, as I had not come across this complaint yet:

I've been using a mbp for roughly three days now. I migrated my files
over from a G4 mini, and the first 24 h seemed to go fine. However,
Entourage (patched to the latest version some time ago) has become
quite flakey. It started yesterday when all of my inbox mail in my
exchange account did not show up in Entourage. I checked the account on
another computer, and sure enough the mail was still sitting on the
server. After rebuilding the Entourage database and downloading the
exchange server info, I can now see what is in my inbox, but the
program runs very slow now.

Moving between mail, calendar, or address views is met with a good 3-5
second before anything happens. Moving between folders on the exchange
server provides a good 7-8 second lag time, and moving between folders
held on my drive is just as slow.

I had none of these symptoms before the inbox oddness and have never
experienced this type of problem when running Entourage on G4 or G5
macs. I am also running the latest version of Spam Sieve, which
appeared to have trouble moving junk mail to the right folder after the
database rebuild, but then started to function fine. I am also going to
try to turn off all rules just in case something else is going on
related to junk mail filtering that is causing the slow down.

Any ideas for fixing this?

Since moving to a MBP, Entourage has been almost unusably slow. When I
launch the program, it takes 3-4 minutes before I can click on
anything. When I click on my address book button, it may take 30
seconds to simply switch the screen to the address book.

I sort of chalked this up to non Universal code but to be honest, I get
much faster response in Photoshop on my MBP than I do in Entourage. It
is by far the slowest program on my machine (with Word and Excel close
behind).

I am all IMAP with mail stored locally and on the server. When I click
on a folder other than my INBOX and read new mail, it will take 30 -45
seconds for the piece of mail to appear after clicking on it. This is
not download time - I can see all my network activity and nothing is
happening on the network - the mail already lives on the local machine
- it is just taking that long to load plain text mail into the screen.

Just a wild guess: maybe you have a font conflict. That is, the font(s)
you have set Entourage to use are duplicates and/or you haven't enabled the
microsoft versions.

You can check this in FontBook, but if you want to clean your font caches
and other stuff get the free and excellent Linotype FontExplorerX
http://www.linotype.com/fontexplorerX.

Or, it could be that rosetta is real slow.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I haven't had any problems <knock on wood>
with Entourage 11.2.3 on my MPB (three weeks now.) Not necessarily
'snappy', but not any slower than it was on my PB.

Well, this is quite strange. I installed another stick of RAM today and
after the reboot, things are much snapier. I had rebooted prior to this
with no change, so who knows what is going on.
