Entourage POP override setting

I can't get one of my Entourage settings to "stick." I keep trying to click the Override Default POP Port 995, but it won't stay clicked. I'm stumped.

Sorry I haven't been back. To be entirely stupid... I see my folder with my ID. Do I move it and a new ID is automatically created? I also pulled up the prior on AT&T service. That is what I have.

Sorry. This may be too simplistic. I created an Identity 1. It still would not allow me to check the 995 port. I chose the copy option for my identity... but I didn't move it anywhere. So I may have made it too messy.

Sorry for the ignorance. Can we try again?

Are you saying you imported data into a new Identity? The idea of testing in
a new Identity is to enter the account in a blank Identity to test for
corruption.

No. Let me try again.
I'm not sure where to PUT my current ID folder.
Do I drag it out of my Documents file?
And the program automatically creates a new ID folder?? I just didn't understand that step.

Let's start from the beginning to cover all bases.

When you launch Entourage the first time, it creates a folder called the
Microsoft User Data folder in your Documents folder. The Microsoft User Data
folder is also know as the MUD folder.

If you move this folder, Entourage will not know where your mail is located
and will open with a new default identity that will be blank.

Same goes if you move your Office 2008 Identities folder out of the MUD
folder. Entourage will create a new blank one.

Inside the MUD folder will be the Office 2008 Identities (or whatever
version you are using)

You can have multiple Identities in the Office 2008 Identities folder. You
can rename them in the Finder or in the Entourage window when you select
"Switch Identities"

Inside your Identity is a database file. The database contains your,
messages, address book, schedules, contacts, tasks, notes, and calendar are
located in the database. To backup your data, you need to copy either your
Identity or the Microsoft User Data folder.

Files located inside your Identity:

Database
Mailing Lists
My Day.plist
Rules
Signatures

If you move the Main (name by default) to the desktop, Entourage will create
a new blank Identity for testing. OR....you can move the entire MUD folder
to the desktop and let Entourage create a new folder.
to check the 995 port

Try this... leave "SMTP requires secure connection (SSL)" and "Override
default SMTP port: 25" unchecked. Make sure "SMTP server requires
authentication with use same settings as receiving mail server" is checked

Unfortunately, that did not work.
From my limited searching, this "stays unchecked" seems to be related to the new AT&T configuration.
Although I'm not sure if it's causal.

That seems to have worked... And I have got my connection issue fixed on my ISP. What will I do if everything works now?!?! Thanks.

Sorry, Diane. That was a separate issue.

I did this...

Okay. I get the 995 unclicked, as is suggested, and we start off fine. The 70,000 pieces of mail stuck on my server start to download.

Then, about 9,000 messages in, I get a -16999 message. So I go ahead and check the secure password box for the incoming server, as suggested. Immediately, I end up with a -17897.

So I'm back where I started.

I imagine the message is just corrupt. Do you know which message it is?

Since you have so many messages on the server, I would move them out of the
Inbox and then move a few at a time back to the Inbox for downloading. This
should make it easier to isolate a bad message.

P

So why do you think it's a message that is downloaded. I would figure it would be a message that got stuck trying to download. No?

I thought that's what I indicated. It's the Inbox on the server. Move the
messages out of the server Inbox to a folder (you'll have to create one).
This will help you identify the problem message(s).

Is this more clear?
