Entourage Problem and my MacPro

S

Skyking

I just got my MacPro and loaded Microsoft Office (latest version) on
it. Everything works except for Entourage. When I boot up Entourage
the load screen comes up and the menu but the spinning ball spins
forever. I finally have to "force quit". I then went to the systems
prefs but I couldn't do anything. If I clicked on something, say
"sound", the spinning ball spins forever and I have to force quit.
when I try to shut or re-boot, the blue screen stays forever. I
finally have to do the old push the power botton to shut down the
MacPro.

The only way around it is to zap the PRAM. System Prefs works again
but if I try to boot up Entourage the same thing occurs. I did
uninstall Office and re-installed, did the updates, but the same thing
occurs.

Office, including Entourage works fine on my MacBook Pro so I am not
sure what is going on here.

Any ideas anyone??

Did you use "Remove Office" when you uninstalled? Even if you did, it's
sometimes necessary to run it more than once. Users have also found that
running the combo updater from Apple will sove some problems like this. The
combo updater overwrites potentially problem files.

Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update (PPC)
tform=osx&method=sa/MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.8PPC.dmg>

Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update (Intel)

tform=osx&method=sa/MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.8Intel.dmg>

Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or
If it's your User's folder that contains the problem.

You can try holding the shift key down when launching Entourage to stop any
schedules from launching to see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was unable to do a combo update as my
MacPro came with 10.4.8. When I tried to run the updater, it would
not. I did; however, reinstall OS X 10.4.8 which worked out OK. I have
not tried running Entrourage yet but will when I am back at home back
Thursday. I did have some other funky issues like starting up Final
Cut Pro. Once I re-installed the OS, Final Cut started up just fine. I
had to leave for a bus trip, so I postponed firing up Entourage.

Thanks again, BTW, should I rebuild the database first before opening
Entourage??

No. It is not recommended that you rebuild your database as regular
maintenance.

You could test Entourage first by renaming your Identity. When Entourage
starts up you can then select to create a new blank Identity. This way
you'll know that Entourage opens. Switch to your Identity and if there are
problems, then do a rebuild.

You can also test in a new User account. I use a Test User just for testing
scenarios like this. Create a new User in System Preferences.
