Entourage quits - no icons show

I re-installed Entourage because when I went to Tools to try and empty
the deleted items folder nothing happened. Also, since installing
10.3.8, mail received is no longer shown in categories, it is all
labeled 'none'. Since re-installing, Entourage shows no icons in the
tool box and quits when I try either to click on where the icon for new
or reply should be. It also quits when I try to access the menu bar. I
have repaired permissions (nothing was wrong) trashed the prefs,
re-started, all to no avail. It does pick mail up on schedule and I
can open mail, but nothing else. Has anyone experienced this, and if
so, is there a solution?

Try rebuilding the database.

In Entourage 2004, you must launch the Microsoft Database Utility.
1. Launch Entourage, holding down the ³Option² key. Or, launch the
Database Utility separately; it is located in HD/Applications/Microsoft
Office 2004/Office/.
2. If you are prompted, allow the Database Utility to quit open Office
applications.
3. Once the Database Utility is open, select your identity from the list at
the top.
4. Click the ³Rebuild Database² button, and click ³Continue.²

In Entourage X, first go to Entourage > Turn Off Office Notifications. Now,
quit Entourage, and then restart Entourage holding down the Option key.
When the Rebuild dialog box comes up, choose to do a Typical Rebuild. If
that does not fix the problem, repeat the procedure, instead opting to do
the Advanced Rebuild.

In Entourage 2001, quit Entourage, and then restart Entourage holding down
the Option key. When the Rebuild dialog box comes up, choose to do a
Typical Rebuild. If that does not fix the problem, repeat the procedure,
instead opting to do the Advanced Rebuild.

Also, make sure that in General Preferences, the option under "Address Book"
to "Automatically match message categories to senders' categories" is
checked.

In the future, please state which version of Entourage you're using.

Thank you for your help, I'm sorry that I forgot to mention that I'm
running Entourage 2004. (The icons had returned before I got your
email, after I downloaded service pack 1 for Entourage)
In any case, I did as you suggested, the net result was that all my
emails for the last few days were duplicated, but categories still
don't show, and Empty Deleted Items will not work from the tool bar.
Nothing has changed. I hope you have another suggestion, it's annoying
that one of the features that I most like about Entourage doesn't work!
