Entourage Rules not working on outgoing messages

J

john.

I have an IMAP account set up and for certain messages I need to
forward a copy of the sent messages to the same email address that is
sending the message.

The Rule does not seem to be working, any ideas please?

Thanks

John

1. have you set up the rule in the 'outgoing' tab of the rules dialog?

2. are you aware that the rule fires _after_ the message has been sent?

3. setting an outgoing rule to send a copy of all outgoing mail may
cause a mail loop - the rule could fire on an outgoing message and send
a copy of that message, this copy then triggers the rule again and
another copy of the message is sent, which then triggers the rule again
and.... the way to avoid this is not to set the rule to work on all
mail, but to select message NOT sent to the target address for the copies.

Thanks for your response, here are the answers to you comments
1. Yes
2. No
3. Yes recognise that I have now changed the rule so that I do not
forward the mail to any other recipient
I am now set up to simply copy teh msg into a mail folder on My
Computer, and this does nto work either

Thanks

can you type up the criteria you have set up for the rule? A screenshot
would be best of all - you can post screenshots to a free service like

Thanks

Thanks, that worked just fine :)

The rule look to be set up correctly.

Are you using gmail as POP or IMAP access? Not sure why either one would
fail with that criterion and action, but an additional data point can do
no harm.

what happens when you send a mail through gmail? does the mail get
copied ot the inbox? does no copy appear and the mail get filed opn the
server? (ah, there's a thought - if IMAP is being used, is the account
set up to file sent messages on the server? (it's in the account
settings dialog). If so, uncheck that option - it could be firing after
the rule has moved the message and hiding the fact it worked.

OK,

The gmail account is set up as IMAP on Entourage

I have another account set up as POP and the similar out rule works
fine for that account

When I send mail through the gmail account all seems to work fine in
terms of the mail is being sent and it is also being stored in the
SENT BOX on the Imap server. and the sent mail does get the receipient
perfectly.

It did try testing this rule with the option deselected to save sent
messages in the Sent BOX on the Imap server, there was no difference
to Entourage behavior ie the msg was sent OK but no copy was saved in
the selected folder after the msg was sent

THanks for your continued help. I am trying to move my system over to
MAc and Entourage from Win XP and outlook and would like this to work
out.
