Hello and HELP!

About 6 months ago, I bought a Macbook for use with school projects
and I bought the Microsoft Office mac 2004. I loaded the program into
my computer, but I have never been able to get entourage to work. I
really do not know much about computers. O have no idea what SMTP is
etc... When I try to send an e-mail through entourage, the program
sends for a long time, then I get this message that tells me that the
message could not be send and has been placed in my box. I have web
service with ATT which is sbcglobal.net In the entourage set up book
that came with the program, under the BEFORE YOU BEGIN section, the
directions read to make sure you have access to the internet through
an ISP or network connection. I assume this is ATT sbcglobal.net.
Next, it reads: make sure you know your e-mail account and password,
which I do, and the incoming and outgoing mail servers, which I do not
know what this means. The ATT sbcglobal.net is with yahoo. Can any one
help!!!!!!!!

Thanks

Clinton

Hi!
Next, it reads: make sure you know your e-mail account and password,
which I do, and the incoming and outgoing mail servers, which I do not
know what this means.

An incoming mail server delivers mail to you. For your service, a safe
*guess* (and that is all it is) might be "mail.sbcglobal.net".

An outgoing mail server takes messages you send and starts the process of
delivering them to the intended recipient. Again, for your service provider,
a safe *guess* might be "mail.sbcglobal.net".

If you contact AT&T/sbcglobal.net customer service, they should be able to
tell you exactly what you need to know. Or you might find it on their web
site:

http://helpme.att.net/index.php

When you get the information, just plug it into Entourage and make sure all
the settings are correct per AT&T Yahoo's directions. If the Entourage
Account Setup wizard is not coming up any longer when you start Entourage,
you can find the settings you need to change under Tools > Accounts.

You can find a good set of instructions for an AT&T/Yahoo account here:

Since you are new to Entourage the Get Started section will help answer a
lot of questions.

I
really do not know much about computers. O have no idea what SMTP is
etc... When I try to send an e-mail through entourage, the program
sends for a long time, then I get this message that tells me that the
message could not be send and has been placed in my box. I have web
service with ATT which is sbcglobal.net In the entourage set up book

You can check your setting in System Preferences. Look under the blue apple
in the menu bar to open System Preferences. Select Network. Most likely
you'll need to select TCP/IP. It will auto configure your setting for you.
If you can get on the internet with your browser then you're connecting OK.

Email account have to be set up. You can set up as a POP or IMAP account. To
learn about account start on this page:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/accounts/>

See this screen shot for help with POP:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/accounts/pop_settings.html>

See this page for help creating an IMAP account:

I assume this is ATT sbcglobal.net.
Next, it reads: make sure you know your e-mail account and password,
which I do, and the incoming and outgoing mail servers, which I do not
know what this means. The ATT sbcglobal.net is with yahoo. Can any one

There are two different ATT account listed in the Account Set up page, but
this is the one I think you need.

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/accounts/att_yahoo.html>

1. If you can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration
2. If you can send but not receive you have a bad POP or IMAP configuration

Microsoft does not update each application every time an update is released.
See ³Confused over Microsoft Update Version numbers?³

<http://blog.entourage.mvps.org/2007/05/confused_over_microsoft_update.html>

Currently, Entourage should be at 11.3.6 even though the last Office update
was 11.3.7.

Let us know if you continue to have problems.
