I have a user with Entourage connecting to an SBS 2003
exchange server. She has access to all of her email (about
1GB worth in about 200 folders) if she stays connected
Entourage frequently hangs and gives the spinning
beachball. When she works offline it doesn't hang quite so
much. Is there a practical limit for IMAP folders?
thanks,
Matt
This is most likely where the syncing between Entourage and Exchange is
muddled up. In the Advanced tab of the Exchange Account (under the Tools
menu/Accounts), select RESET SYNCHRONISATION. This will force Entourage and
Exchange to start their syncing again. Note: You may have to go into
OFFLINE mode before you can do this - under the FILE menu, select, OFFLINE,
then reset synchronisation, then quit, then open Entourage again, then go
online.
Get your user to check their calendar and address book for duplicate
entries - there may be some, and perhaps thousands of Public Holidays in the
Calendar. They need to be cleaned up.
Also, make sure you do regular maintenance on your HD. Boot from the
Install CD, then under the Installer menu, select DISK UTILITY. When this
opens, select you disk, then click on the FIRST AID tab. First select
REPAIR DISK. When that is complete, select REPAIR PERMISSIONS.
You should always run REPAIR PERMISSIONS after installing any software in
Mac OS X. You do not have to boot from the CD to repair permissions, you
can run it from APPLICATIONS/UTILITIES/DISK UTILITY.
Booting up entourage while holding the Option key down is a good idea, as it
will allow you to rebuild the Entourage database.
Also see an earlier reply I did a few days ago about Duplicate holidays or
similar - our experience and possible resolutions is in there. We resorted
to creating a new account to get over the problems, but it still happens
occasionally. Entourage crashes without reason in Panther (OS X 10.3), for
no particular reason that we can identify. We always send the crash reports
to Apple, FWIW.
