Entourage unindexed LDAP search

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Power PC Email Client: imap Logs from our LDAP server indicate that an unindexed searches are being attempted several times during a day. They cannot succeed due to timeout values, yet they do put an undesireable load on the LDAP server.

After being contacted by the network admin, I discovered that what all the relevant IPs had in common was Entourage, and users who tended to leave it open. The msrtcsip in the search also makes me suspect Entourage. Any ideas on how to change this behavior? "Use Simple Search Filter" had no effect.

The search is:

base="dc=uwrf,dc=edu"
filter="(|(mail=*)(mail=*))"
attrs="displayName cn mail mail givenName sn personalTitle generationQualifier st co c company o department ou url wwwhomepage homePhone facsimileTelephoneNumber mobile pager title telephoneNumber l homePostalAddress street postalAddress street postOfficeBox info comment postalCode msrtcsip-primaryuseraddress userSMIMECertificate;binary userCertificate;binary objectClass objectcategory dn physicalDeliveryOfficeName mailnickname description hidedlmembership objectguid;binary proxyaddresses"
