Entourage "VIRUS" contact

In my contact list, I have a contact named "VIRUS" which I cannot
delete nor edit. I didn't create it either. I have a lot of yahoo
contacts in my address book which sends me a lot of spam. Has anyone
encountered this problem? Do you know if this sends my information to
another computer? Can anyone help me remove this contact from my
address book? I would appreciate the help!

To date, no Mac OS X virus exists in the wild. You probably do not have
a virus. :)

What kind of account do you have? POP/IMAP/Exchange?

What happens when you attempt to delete this contact? Do you receive an
error message?

I am using Microsoft Entourage to sync my contacts from my local ISP and mail provider using a POP3 account.

When I try to delete the "VIRUS" contact, I get an error message saying that it the contact is currently being used and cannot be deleted. Some of my email messages are also scrambled and some files cannot be opened.

Make a copy of your Identity in the Finder.

Open Entourage in the copy.

Under File > Export select export only contacts as Entourage archive (.rge)
file. Select to delete after exporting.

Import the .rge file back into Entourage. Can you delete the virus contact
now?

If this works, you can delete one Identity. I always advise working on a
copy when doing something drastic like deleting all.
