Entourage wants to download old emails again

I was hoping this problem would have been fixed in 2008. But now it's happened again. I have over 5,400 emails left on my smtp server. Now, Entourage wants to download them all again.
I know this is a database corruption problem. Is there a fix now for this? And no, it's not the smtp service I use. This has happened with every different email service I've ever had. This is an Entourage problem.

I know that I can set Entourage to delete my emails after I download them, but I would rather leave a copy on the server for obvious back up reasons.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Can you move them into another folder on your server that Entourage will not
download?

it's not necessarily a database corruption issue (although that can also cause this problem).

it can often be due to circumstances completely beyond your control, such as you ISP 'resetting' the message indexes at the server.

It is a royal pain, I know. but there are duplicate removal scripts available to clean up the aftermath on the Entourage Help Pages <http://www.entourage.mvps.org>

If the problem is indeed out of your control as Barry suggests then you
might see if you can convert your POP account to an IMAP account so that
messages remain synchronized rather than downloaded into Entourage as
well as remaining stored on the server.
