Entourage wants to use confidential...

A

Art Shotwell

I've just completed removing Office 2008 and reinstalling it and the update.
The first 12.0.1 update had apparently failed on Entourage; it showed as
12.0.0. Anyway, now I keep getting this popup message
"Microsoft Entourage wants to use your confidential information stores in
(mail.anacortesnow.com) in your keychain... The authenticity of Microsoft
Entourage could not be verified."

Huh? The authenticity of Entourage could not be verified???

Anyone got an idea how to get Entourage verified so I don't have to go
through this routine every 10 minutes when Entourage checks email???

I get this for 3 of my 5 email accounts. And, three times for each of the
three email accounts.

You are not alone in having update problems. See this article on how to fix:

It's a certificate that needs verification. Be sure your keychain is
unlocked and save this info.

Once the keychain has this info and is authorized to use it, then you should
not get the alerts. You might need to run keychain first aid if it doesn't
stick.

Run Keychain FirstAid:

Open Keychain Access located in Applications/Utilities, then choose Keychain
Access > Keychain First Aid.
Enter your user name and password.
Select, Verify and click Start.
Any problems found will be displayed.
If there are problems, select Repair and then click Start.

Test to see if the problem is fixed. If not...

1. Go to the system keychain and delete the entry for that account.

2. Go to Entourage, select 'accounts' from the Tools menu, choose the
account that was giving you trouble and click on Edit. Select the 'account
settings' tab.

3. Delete the password from the password box in the POP settings (leaving
the box empty).

4. Close the account window.

5. Re-open the account window and enter your proper password, check the
'save in keychain' check box and close the window again.

The password should now stick.

If you are still having problems, post back what type of mail account you
have (POP/IMAP/HotMail/MSN*/Exchange).

KeyChain first aid worked. Thanks, all is normal. Well, 'cept for syncing
with my Palm.

Glad you got it working. Some users find that manually turning on Sync
Services in Entourage weekly to sync with iCal then turn off allows iCal to
sync with Palm.
